Exploring Who Was I in a Past Life With Blue Lotus Essential Oil

Since we started running workshops about ancient Egypt at the aromatic Mystery school, I've had so many conversations with fellow aromatherapists and people who are doing spiritual and healing jobs who have said to me that they can remember having past lives in ancient Egypt. It's a theme that keeps coming up over and over for me, since I have finished doing the work about the ancient Greek priestesses, the Melissae. My mother calls it my initiation - a petrifying experience where I realised I had been seeing their rituals in my dreams for weeks. Then I saw five of my past lives come in all at once -bang, bang, bang - as I vomited in terror. I've spent the last three years since observing my dreams and wondering why I dream about ancient Egypt so much. Just who was I in a past life?

Working with Blue Lotus has made me even more fascinated about it. The medicine that helped the ancients speak with their dead. But of course, the strange phenomenon is that if you do believe in reincarnation, and that the same souls keep being incarnated into the same lineages…it’s not without the realms of possibility that your ancestor could also be you…I mean it fries my brain to even think of it! I’m really looking forward to doing the Temple Dance Training with Katie Holland next month, exploring those soul contracts with Blue Lotus. I’m going to be fascinated to experience how the energy flow feels in the body as we disturb and move it. I’m keen to bring through old memories to try to integrate knowledge, rather than just to try to move them on.

Who Was I in A Past Life?

Well, to be honest, I have no idea really! But it does seem very likely that I must have been a priestess of some description. It’s the only thing that makes sense of how much more comfortable I feel in my body since I started studying them. Being a Melissa feels OK to me, because the priestesses were married, this being married to humans, rather than married to gods feels safe to me.

But the more I have studied Blue Lotus oil, and all the Blue Lotus that has turned up in the iconography of Tutankhamen, it has really rammed it home to me that the role of the high priestess in ancient Egypt was exactly that…you were married to a god! Plus, the entire point of the rituals using Blue Lotus is to be able to overcome the mere trifling of dying. So, if you were a high priestess, and God's Wife…when do you stop being that? More to the point…what are the ramifications if that soul contract was never broken? What does that mean now?

It’s quite massive when you think about it isn’t it?

Now I have to say, this is not something I cling to. I know some people are fascinated by the question, who was I in a past life. I’m not one of them. For me, I’m more interested in thinking about plants and trying to remember what I was doing ten minutes ago than wondering what I was like ten thousand years ago. Nevertheless, it does make sense to me.

Huge amounts of sense actually.

Why Are So Many People Now Thinking About Who Was I in a Past Life?

This feels engaging to me…how life's changing around narratives of religion and spirituality.

There is no doubt that people were asking the question thirty years ago, but perhaps not as openly or in ways that make them want to engage with their past lives and to learn from it.

Perhaps it is part of the drawing of the so-called Age of Aquarius, the changing into 5D reality, some kind of conscious shift…I don’t know.

I think what is interesting to consider is some parts of the birth chart that could illuminate.

Notably the South Node and the planet Vesta.

Vesta

Vesta was the Roman goddess of the Hearth, home and State. She was served by the Vestal Virgins who dedicated 30 years of service to the sacred fire that was the personification of Rome. During their tenure they were celebate.

The asteroid, Vesta, was first identified in March 1807. In Astrology, Vesta represents ways we dedicate ourselves entirely to things, heart and soul, and those things that we would be prepared to make sacrifices for. Just as the priestesses offered daily devotions to the goddess to please her and fortify Rome, Vesta rules those things that we devote our energies first and foremost to, through duty and love. Just as the priestesses who lived within the sanctuary, and were accompanied everywhere by bodyguards,Vesta represents your need to retreat to preserve your inner sanctuary against disrespectful intrusions.

Vesta moved into Scorpio at the end of January, the sign that governs death and rebirth. This transit may feel especially intense if you already live a life of devotion.  For a Vestal Virgin this would be staring right into the flames, or into the shadows cast by the fire. For Vesta in Scorpio encourages you to honour the darkest things and particularly your Shadow. The darkest of the shaman’s journeys is a transit of deep healing, self-discovery and integration. It seems to me if Pluto rules the mysteries of death and rebirth…then the priestesses might be more likely to speak in that transit than some others.

South Node

The South Node is a point in the cosmos calculated from the Moon's orbit and the cycles of the eclipses. It is always in tandem with the North NOde which will be in the opposite sign. Vedic astrology tells how the nodes were originally a demon who had tricked the gods for immortality. Furious about being tricked, they cursed him that his immortality meant he must always carry the past and future with him, meaning he could never escape himself or his actions.

The North Node is the future and is seen as the dragon’s head. The south node, the dragon’s tail are the lives from the past. So the south node reveals the tensions between  previous incarnations, where the north node will always be the future…every moment a chance to change and evolve. The Nodes move along the lunar axis and change signs every 1.5 years. The South node is always opposite the North Node in sign and degree.

The South Node has just moved into Virgo…the sign of the virgin.

Chaste virgins everywhere!
